The abandoned gardens will open on Sunday 10th August for the first time since 1938. Visitors to the Lowther Show are invited to follow a simple route through the 120 acre site.
The original planting has long disappeared but the outlines of the Edwardian gardens remain, overplanted with trees and covered by moss and lichen.
Emergency work to prevent the collapse of the Castle ruin continues and the intensive chicken farm on the south lawns is being demolished.
New plans to open the Castle and Gardens are being led by the Lowther Castle and Gardens trustees who have appointed architects Feilden Clegg Bradley and the garden designer Dan Pearson. The design team want to know what people would like to see at Lowther.
Come and explore the Gardens, see glimpses of their past glory and tell us what you think.
